I wanted to share with you some tips I've gotten throughout this time and some that I am still working on. Some days don't start they way we want them to, or they don't go according to our plans, and I think it's always good to know how to flip them so even if they can't change, our attitude maybe can.
Let's say we're trying to do some project and it's not turning out ok, why get frustrated? It's better to take some time out, go for a walk, get some fresh air and restart.

Here are  5 tips to start your day right. I got these tips from Grace from HappySunnyFlowers, she does a video in Spanish explaining them and you can find the video here.

1. Wake up early

Yes, if you know me you know I struggle with this. As my two year old sleeps in, he doesn't force me to wake up early and we as a family are totally night owls, so we go to bed super late and wake up late. My husband has mostly afternoon and evening classes, so he studies at night and Will and I kind of adapter to his schedule, but I definitely think and know that if we wake up early we're more productive, so this one is definitely something I have to work with you if you're on the same boat.

2. Leave everything ready the night before

I do like to do this and it makes my "morning" go smoothly. These last past weeks I've been freelancing for a company, so I've been waking up around 7. I leave my clothes ready, and even the make up and perfume I want to use. I wake up and then chop, chop, chop I do everything in a mechanical way, I don't have to wonder what do I wear? What color eyes should I do? The only thing I have to prepare is the morning coffee. If you leave your clothes, make up, purse and even keys ready to go your morning will start up the right way and you will have more time to do a little of morning reading or drink your coffee outside if you have a balcony contemplating God's creation and love for you.

3. Have a glass of warm water with lemon

I don't always remember to drink this in the morning, but when I do, is a game changer. I am struggling with acid reflux and heartburn during this pregnancy and having water with lemon it totally helps me. And there are a ton of other benefits to drinking this like:

  1. Gives your immune system a boost. Vitamin C is like our immune system's jumper cables, and lemon juice is full of it.
  2. Excellent source of potassium.
  3. Aids digestion.
  4. Cleanses your system.
  5. Freshens your breath.
  6. Keeps your skin blemish-free.
  7. Helps you lose weight.
  8. Reduces inflammation.

4. Have a good breakfast

I have been obsessed with oat meal lately. It fills me up and it comforts me. On Friday I will be posting a recipe post on how to make overnight oats with different flavor combinations for you to prepare the night before and eat them in the morning. But if you have time, you can make an acai bowl, a yummy smoothie, an egg omelette with veggies, but the important thing is to have protein in the morning to give us the strength to start the day.

5. Wash your face

I know a lot of the times we might feel lazy to wash our faces because it feels cold but it totally makes the difference for me. If I wash my face, even if I wear make up or no, I wake up and I don't feel like going to bed again (that much...).

Now, what happens if we do all this, if we give it out best and our day gets interrupted by something that is out of our control, or out child throws up all over, or our car breaks down, you name it. We can try to use that as a turning point and go the opposite way. These are the steps that I've often used to pivot my day.

1. Get dressed with something pretty or fancy

If you wake up one day and you feel under the weather, or you're on that time of the month or you just don't feel like living, lol, or if you got some news you don't know how to process, go to your closet and chose the prettiest thing you can find. It doesn't have to be a party dress, but perhaps a blouse that you save for special ocassions. Wear it, it might seem shallow, but I think that if you start looking a little better and you put some love to the little things, your outlook on things can improve.

Shaving your legs to put shorts on and choosing a nice bag to go out to run errands can also make you feel a bit better.

2. Put make up on

A little goes a long way. Even if you have just a little concealer, blush and mascara, boom! You will feel a lot better. When I feel badly and I happen to walk past a mirror and I see myself I feel worse! But if I see myself looking decent, I'm like, ok I can deal.

3. Go on a walk and get a coffee

If your computer is not working or your sewing machine or you feel overwhelmed, take 15 and go on a walk. If you happen to walk across a mom and pops coffee house with some charm, do go inside, get a latte and enjoy some time for yourself.

4. Set a playlist, open the windows, have breakfast outside

I like to play some Latin music, ballads, romance, some dancing ones, like Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Reik, Jesse & Joy, J-Lo, you name it. I have several Pandora stations for different moods.

5. Visit a library or go read at the park

Sometimes you just need a change of scenery. When I didn't have kids, I would take my beach chair on my back with a book and coffee to go and take a walk down the shore and then sit down and read. Or even at the park. We have a park right next to the library so I still do that. We go to have a pic-nic with my 2 year old and then he starts walking towards the library and I read while he plays in the kids area.

I read the Bible in the morning and that is also a great way to change your day from so so to great. Even when I am going through a crisis I don't always resort to the Bible because I let my thoughts take over but if I text a friend and she texts me a Bible verse back it does the trick!

What do you think about these tips? Do you think they're useful? What are your tips to start a good day or make a bad day get better?
